3 Things to Consider When Choosing a Newborn Photographer | Dallas Newborn Photographer

You’re pregnant! This magical time is so very special. But, as you’ve learned, there’s a whole world of new things to think about and consider.  And of course, you only want the best for your little one. My hope in this post is that I can help you navigate what is best for your family’s newborn portraits.

Of course, I hope that if you are in the Dallas Fort Worth or Houston areas you will choose Domus Aurea Portraits for your newborn photography needs.

Here are 3 things you need to consider when choosing your newborn photographer:

POSED OR LIFESTYLE

    • A posed photographer does simply that…posed images of your little one. You’ve seen the shots on Pinterest of newborn babies posed in froggy outfits or puppy hats, with their hands under their chins and cute little tooshies in the air, right? That is posed.
    • Lifestyle newborn photography is focused on the family and the connection and love that you share.  As a lifestyle newborn photographer, I come in to YOUR home and I photograph you naturally in the places that mean the most to you with people and pets that mean the most to you. Usually this means we focus on taking portraits in the nursery, master bedroom and sometimes the living room. It’s all about creating timeless portraits that show your love in the comfort of your own home.

  • PHOTOGRAPHER’S EXPERIENCE & SKILL

    • It’s important to know the level of experience the photographer has. Is this their first baby to photograph? Do they know how to safely hold & swaddle your baby? How many years experience does the photographer have?  Are you okay with a photographer who’s only been photographing newborn sessions for 1 year? Or would you like them to have more experience than that?
    • Don’t be afraid to ask the photographer to view several full galleries from sessions they’ve done. If you’re going to invest in a photographer, it’s important to know exactly what you are getting!

  • BUDGET

    • The cost of newborn portraiture can vary greatly. Some things to keep in mind are session duration, photographer’s level of training, photographer’s equipment, etc. I’ve seen photographers charge anywhere from $100 – $1000k+ for their services.
    • It’s important to keep in mind that a photographer puts a lot more time into the session than just the time spent with you.  And remember that there is truth to the saying, “You get what you pay for.”
