Spring Mini Sessions and my GIANT DIY flowers! | Houston Child Photographer

I am not the kind of photographer who enjoys using props. That’s why my newborn sessions are lifestyle sessions only. I do NOT want to stuff a baby in a suitcase, or a basket (although, I’ve seen this tastefully done so I MIGHT consider it) or in daddy’s high school football helmet nor do I enjoy photographing children on suitcases or old wooden milk carton boxes. I know, I sound like a snob… :/  But, it makes me cringe and so I rarely use props.

What I DO enjoy is creating sets. There is something about the challenge of creating  beautiful, unique, and exciting sets and then photographing my clients in front of them that makes me pretty stinkin’ happy!

For my Spring minis, I started planning around Christmas time. I was browsing Pinterest one day and saw a picture of a girl with large flowers. I thought, “I can do this!” So, I Googled “DIY giant flowers” and I found myself on a DIY post by Design Sponge here. I bookmarked it. When the month of my mini sessions arrived, I went back to the post, read all the comments (which were very helpful, by the way!), and went for it! It certainly took a lot more time than I had intended, and I threw away a few of my flowers because I’m lazy and was cutting things like a 2 year old (ha!) and then realized that wasn’t going to cut it (see what I did there? I’m hilarious…) but I think the end result was COMPLETELY worth it!

I had the privilege of shooting at the Hickory Street Annex in downtown Dallas. The place is gorgeous with tons of natural light (even on what was a VERY rainy day).

I hope you love these as much as  I did and if you have any questions about HOW I made these, feel free to leave a comment and I will happily answer your questions. :)
