Houston Newborn Photographer | My Baby Girl is 2

Adia, my sweet curly-haired blonde, bright blue-eyed little girl (she’s not a newborn or baby anymore, y’all! *tear*) …you have filled my life with so much more happiness than I ever knew was possible. I can’t even put into words how much your life and love means to me and when I look at you and talk to you and hold you I am so filled to the brim with joy and love that I seriously feel like I could burst into tears. You recently started saying, “Mama, I love you! MUCH! BIG!” And I’m worried my heart might just explode (Mamas reading this, you get it…right? I’m not crazy!).

How is it even possible that my beautiful baby girl is two years old? I know I primarily photograph newborns but I love the occasional toddler shoot and of course, when it’s your own and you are a photographer you HAVE to make a birthday shoot happen! ;)

When I took these photos of her, I had visions of the perfect session. Beautiful everything. But this is actually how it played out.

I ran to the mall to try and find the perfect dress for this shoot. I found one and then realized I picked up the most expensive one in the store (why do I always do that?!) and put it back, bought a pretty floral wreath (which I didn’t use because it totally wasn’t worth the trouble once we got there!). I rushed home to go back through the dresses she already has, chose this one (which I’ve used before in shoots with her and that bugs me because I’m vain like that!), then gave her a very quick bath, drove 45 min to this spot (in Houston rush hour! 🙄), while Adia cried for a good 20 minutes then passed out and slept for the next 20 minutes (not ideal right before a shoot). Once we got there, Adia didn’t want anything to do with the flowers or my camera.
Anyway, mamas (and daddies!), know this — I’ve been in your shoes. And trust me — it’s okay if everything isn’t perfect. Because there’s beauty in chaos (I know it sounds cheesy but it’s true!). These photos will always remind me of that sweet moment where she stood there watching the children in another field and she kept saying, “Hiiii!” My goal is to capture that beauty for you. You might not see it or feel it in the moment but I promise you…it’s there.
